This is a quick start guide to getting your wallet set up. Keep in mind this guide is meant to help you with basic operations and functionality for your EXOS wallet, has been developed over time, and answers many of the setup questions you may come across. Note this is an entirely separate application from the EXOS-QT Wallet, where you will manage tokens.

Here you’ll find a number of interesting statistics that help indicate speed, health, and distribution of the blockchain.
After download and install, you will need to give your computer permission to open the application file the first time you open it.
This may include disabling any anti-virus software you have running.
For Windows: My Computer > Applications > EXOS-Qt > Allow Access
For Mac: Finder > Applications > EXOS-Qt (right click) > Open > (follow prompts to allow the application to open)
Once the wallet is installed, open it and allow a few minutes for it to sync with the latest information from the network … Then you’re ready to play!
PATH: Receive > New Address > (create label) > Ok [Note: you do not need to type anything in the Address field]
It is recommended to generate a brand new address each time you receive tokens, and to not use the address auto-generated by the wallet. This is not necessary, but keeps your tokens, transactions, and identity most secure. This also means that you should regularly backup your wallet, since the tokens in your wallet and backup files are tied to each respective receiving address (this is how the data is tracked in the blockchain).
Sending tokens requires two things:
1) the EXOS receiving address of the person or wallet that you want to send tokens, and
2) an active internet connection.
It is recommended to send a small test (0.01 or less) transaction to any new address before sending a larger number of tokens, then asking the receiver to verify that the correct amount was received. This helps ensure the tokens ultimately do end up where you want them to go.
PATH: Settings > Encrypt Wallet > (create passphrase)
If you forget this password, you will lose your tokens. Nobody can retrieve this for you.
Encryption is recommended as soon as you have any tokens, and before you make any backups. Encryption will apply to all backup files created after the password is set. If you create a backup that is not encrypted, anyone with access to the file will be able to use any tokens that have been received at addresses saved within the file.
PATH: File > Backup Wallet > (create backup file name + select location)
Encrypt your wallet before creating a backup. Anybody who gets access to the file can use any tokens that have been received at addresses saved within the file if not encrypted. Never share or send an unencrypted backup file.
It is recommended to regularly backup your wallet and to store your backup files on a different device than the one you run your main wallet from (USB stick, external hard drive). You can technically store your backups in the Cloud, though for security reasons it is not recommended.
Restoring a backup is needed if your primary wallet or computer fails, or if you’d like to access your tokens from a different computer, or if any other file failure happens. The wallet files are located under the following directories, respectively based on your computer’s operating system:
IMPORTANT: (replace “username” with your particular username between < >)
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/EXOS/ (Can’t find the “Library” folder? Try this)
Make sure your EXOS-QT wallet is closed
Once you have found the particular space from the directory above, you will see a file called “wallet.dat”. You will need to rename this file to something else (anything.dat)
After renaming the original file, drag your backup file into the same location as the (anything.dat) file
Now, rename your backup file to “wallet.dat”
Re-open the EXOS-QT wallet and the backup should now be active
If you had originally encrypted your wallet (recommended!), your backups will also be protected with the same password.
Backups are not operating system specific, so you can restore a backup from one operating system to a different one with ease.
Staking (highly encouraged!)
The EXOS Blockchain runs on Proof of Stake. In simple terms, this means you can leverage the tokens in your wallet (also can be thought of as ‘bonding your tokens’) to support the health and security of the network and participate in ‘moving the chain forward’, potentially earning EXOS tokens for your service (staking rewards), along the way (1 EXOS per block created). Staking is essential to the function of the blockchain.
The wallet software must be open, unlocked, and connected to the internet in order to stake. If you’ve put tokens in ‘Reserve’ in your QT Wallet preferences, these tokens will not stake. If tokens are staking, they are for that moment unspendable.
Important Best Practices:
Never share your passphrase with anybody, even if that person is trying to support/help you. Nobody (technical or otherwise) should ever ask you for it.
It is highly recommended to never share your balance publicly (social networks, forums, etc.). If your tokens have value (even if only perceived), this could make you a target. Keep this as private as possible.
Update to the latest version of the wallet each time a new version is released. If you don’t stay up to date, your wallet will eventually stop syncing with the network.
